Pre Pregnancy Checklist

So you have decided to have a baby! Making plans to have a baby and the whole process of conception, carrying the baby and ultimately giving birth and beyond can be a very confusing time for women. So let’s get first things first, how do you prepare your body for pregnancy?

Well firstly if you are a smoker then stop now! You don’t want to have all of those toxins flowing around your system and potentially entering that of your baby.

Secondly, even if you are a social alcohol drinker then cut this out. There is so much conflicting advice nowadays with regards to what is good for you or not but if you wish to be on the safest side possible then saying no to alcohol before and during pregnancy (and also afterwards if you are feeding your baby yourself) is the safest bet.

Stop taking birth control if you are taking it and give it at least three cycles to get out of your system.

Cut down your caffeine intake.

Go to your doctor for a full body check up.

Get outdoors and exercise! A healthy weight means less likelihood of high blood pressure and diabetes.

Take folic acid tablets – your doctor will advise – this reduces any risk of birth defects in your baby.

Take a vitamin pill especially formulated for pre pregnancy.

Finally, avoid stress!
